Notes on Interjections

Definition:

Interjection is a word or phrase that expresses a feeling.  Interjections are not connected grammatically to the rest of the sentence.

Interjection is an exclamation that is inserted (thrown) into (between) an utterance without grammatical connection to it.

Interjections are mainly a part of oral communication.  Writers should use them sparingly.

Most interjections we hear are most likely considered swear words.

Examples:

Ouch!  That hurts.

Man, I can’t take this teacher anymore.

Jesus!  If she keeps that up, I am going to rip my hair out.
